Special Message to Our Retirees


To our Retirees and Beneficiaries,

The MCERA office is closing to the public effective at 5 pm today, Monday, March 16. We will continue to have staff available by phone and email during our normal business hours to handle all retirement related questions and transactions without the need to visit our office.

In the last two weeks, we have witnessed extraordinary changes in California and the United States. COVID-19 has dramatically altered how we go about our daily lives for the foreseeable future. Despite all the changes, and those that are still to come, one thing will remain constant: our commitment to your financial well-being through the timely payment of your regular monthly retirement benefits.

The COVID-19 situation comes at our busiest time of year. The largest population of active members retire at the end of March in order to receive the April cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). To ensure processing of accounts for everyone retiring by March 31 and application of the COLA for all eligible retirees on April 30, we have a contingency plan in place and the technical capability for all of our staff members to work remotely if it becomes necessary to combat the spread of COVID-19. We are also working closely with the County of Marin and tracking any changes to the broader County government that may impact MCERA.

The MCERA staff and Board of Retirement are committed to helping you make it through this time by focusing on our top priorities and conducting our business as consistently and transparently as possible. The situation is changing daily, so please check this website for updates and changes to our business operations.
